daydreaming...

So this past weekend I was talking with my sister(s) in law (Jess this means you) and I ran an idea by them that I've always had in the back of my mind...opening a store.

I've spoken with a few people about this before but until now haven't really taken any of the ideas seriously, but I'm thinking that this could be the time to do it.  I mean, we don't have kids yet...and I think I've figured out a great combination store type that will fit into this unique Upper Valley area.

Of course now I can't stop thinking and brainstorming different ideas for this alleged store (names, looks, brands to carry etc.) and one thing keeps popping up.  I want an awning, specifically a striped awning to create a warm, welcoming storefront in downtown Hanover.

Here are some photos that I found and loved:

I mean how cute are all of those!  Makes me want to do a little more investigating on this whole "opening a store idea"

Anyone out there ever opened their own store before?  Tips/Ideas/Suggestions much appreciated!

XO

  1. Love the idea Linds. I remember your Mom mentioning the "store" at your wedding. Its never too late to create the kind of life you want for yourself!! I say go for it!

  2. An interesting idea, but downtown Hanover is probably not the right space for your first store. Lease prices for prime retail space in downtown Hanover will likely be considerably more than you imagine them to be - probably at least $14/sf, which for a rather small 500sf shop would be a minimum of $7000/month rent. And that is IF a space opens up. Unfortunately these things need to be looked at before looking at the fun stuff. :-( But, it's not a bad idea - you just might have to go to a less desirable town or area of town. (I really don't know how much money you have to work with, though.)
