Is it bad that one of my favorite things about Valentine's Day is the candy? Those candy hearts are my drug...I LOVE THEM. It's a problem, 3 times this week I have bought a bag of them and eaten all of the green and purple ones...3 times!
I have got to get a grip...I can't just be eating candy like it grows on trees...or can I? I can't help it, those candies must have a little bit of crack in them...how else can I explain my desperate need for them.
Does anyone else have a problem like this...I must have been the main character in Candyland in my last life because I love candy more than any child I know. Oh and I'm not really into the "good candy" like Godiva Chocolate or anything else respectable, No, I prefer bottom shelf candy like: Nerds, Swedish Fish (although those sound fancy), Sweet Tarts, Sweet Hearts (!), Bazooka Bubble Gum...you get the picture.
I think I need help...suggestions anyone? A good dentist perhaps?
Maybe I'd be better off if those little candies said nasty things like, "don't eat me" or "I'll give you cellulite"...maybe that would make me think before I shove them in my mouth with reckless abandon.

Hilarious
While I was catching up on my daily news (via gawker.com) I ran across this article on an "uncovered sorority rush handbook" from a Pi Beta Phi chapter at Cornell...me being nosy, I of course immediately clicked the link and read it...
Check it out here....
I figured that as long as I'm talking about sororities I may as well show a little love to the best one there is!

Sunday Ski...with Lindsay "Von" Teevens
Today I went skiing for the first time! I am marrying a former ski-racer and had never put on a ski boot in my life before today. The weather was beautiful and not too cold so Matt and I (mostly Matt) decided that today was the day for me to learn!
We went over to Mount Sunapee around 12:30 (about 25min away) and started there. We started off on the bunny slopes...mostly walking up and trying not to fall on the way down. Once I had mastered that (which, didn't take me too long...thank god, because I was skiing along with kids between the ages of 2-4) we started on another "more advanced" bunny hill that had a rope tow.
Matt then taught me, very patiently, how to maneuver around some cones that were spread out down the hill. I have to say, I was pretty proud of myself because I didn't fall once! Granted, I was skiing down with small children who are skiing between their parents legs, but bottom line: I didn't eat it and I didn't have a teary meltdown...unlike many small children on the hill...
After that we took a chair lift up to a trail...a real life trail! The chair lift was a little scary, but we met some nice people (who said they liked my boots!) and got off the lift with no problem. We also managed to get down the hill with no major falls (Sweet!).
Later we trekked over to the steeper side of the mountain and tried out two more trails. All I can say is that I am still in one piece, but took a few falls on the way down (one fall was a self-inflicted ass-over-tea-kettle fall after I realized I was on a one-way track to the woods), but all in all it was a fun time...and we are going again this week!
I also have to say that it was fantastic people watching, we saw a little bit of everything out there today...I even saw a man skiing in jeans...no lie...denim pants. (Which I learned are called "texas gortex"...I laughed so hard when I heard that, that I fell down again)...
Here is what I looked like earlier today...
and someday I hope to ski here: (NOT!)

Gorgeous...
So my aunt, who is a FABULOUS photographer, just sent me this picture of Lucy that she took while we were in Florida over the holidays. I am in love with it...and am currently searching for the perfect frame for it to go in. The eyes are amazing, the face is adorable... I don't know how she captured it all in this one picture but it's perfection!
Anyone out there...I'd love to see pictures of your dogs too!

Divine
For anyone out there who is looking for a classic, unique, tasteful and overall DIVINE wedding invitation (or really, invitation in general) you MUST check out Gus & Ruby Letterpress.
It is an adorable company located in Portsmouth, NH. I stumbled upon it last Friday when I was there looking for a wedding dress. The space is to die for, located on a cobblestone street it has an exposed brick wall and shelves full of beautiful paper etc. Also, if you are lucky, little Gus (a brussels-griffon) will come out and say hello to you.
I immediately fell in love with the shop and picked out my invitations then and there!

Me Room
So, in my quest to turn Matt's house into a female-friendly space (I'm sorry deer-horns, but you need to reconvene in another area of the house...perhaps the barn?). So far my efforts have been focused on one of the guest rooms upstairs off of the master bedroom. Last weekend Matt and I painted the walls and trim...and, if I say so myself, it looks phenomenal.
This weekend was devoted to decorating the room. For the bed I put all new crisp white sheets and pillowcases on, along with a nice crisp white duvet cover. Next, I put an adorable Shabby Chic (for Target) quilt on the end of the bed. The end result: effortless comfort. It looks like a bed you could just dive right in and take a nap on.
After the bed was made, I moved some things around, and put all of my purses in a huge antique-looking basket, which looks very chic if I say so myself.
I really feel like my "shabby chic dressing room/office" is coming to life. This morning after reading some of my book on the bed (while Matt fought with our new t.v.) I folded laundry on my adorable bed while listening to Taylor Swift on the iPod speakers I put in yesterday. Folding laundry is a whole new experience in that room....I feel like I could do it all day!
Here are some pictures of rooms/items that inspired my Me room:
I ADORE nice big classic storage baskets
Nice lamps make the lighting warm and inviting, I also have the overhead light on a dimmer, which really makes the room feel so cozy.
Lastly, the main inspiration...Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic philosophy...perfection.
enjoy!

Random Thoughts...
I got this as a forward yesterday and was DYING laughing...read on for some serious laughs!
Random Thoughts of the Day:
1) Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you
realize you're wrong.
2) I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was
younger.
3) There is a great need for sarcasm font.
4) How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
5) I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand
than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
6) MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I
know how to get out of my neighborhood.
7) Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the
person died.
8) I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
9) Bad decisions make good stories
10) You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at
work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything
productive for the rest of the day.
11) I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks
me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I
swear I did not make any changes to.
12) I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?
Damnit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and
goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone
and run away?
13) I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not
seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
14) As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers,
but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.
15) I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not
to answer when they call.
16) I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or
Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.
Bonus Funnies:
I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, government,
healthcare, real estate prices, the stock market, the federal deficit,
Iraq, Afghanistan, global warming, my savings, Social Security, credit
card debt........I called the Suicide Hotline. ... I got a call center
in Pakistan ......told them I was suicidal. They got all excited and
asked if I could drive a truck

Happy (belated) New Year!
Sooo...How are all New Year's Resolutiong going?
I must say that so far so good for me. I have talked/caught up with three four best friends this week on the phone and another through email (one of my goals/resolutions was to stay in better contact with friends and family).
Another goal for this year is to make myself a "girly space" in Matt's house. It's actually coming along quite nicely, we stripped down wallpaper and painted a room upstairs!
It's going to be my "dressing room" and office. We painted it a taupe color (B.Moore, Cedar Key) with a decorator's white high-gloss trim. It looks AWESOME! I will post some pictures later this week. I just need to find a rug, some new linens and curtains and it will be complete!
I'm also thinking about getting a chandelier for it...Matt didn't seem super psyched about that idea though. Pottery Barn Kids and Restoration Hardware Kids has the cutest chandeliers though...I may have to order one!
Happy New Year again xo
