Things I learned today
1. Do-it-yourself file boxes are REALLY hard to put together
2. There are people way weirder than me...like "we-tested-our-blood-sugar-together-at-the-table-on-our-date-because-we're-both-diabetic weird" Sad but actually made me feel totally normal and cool (despite not being able to put together that damn file box)
3. I love red wine...fav: Menage-et-tois
4. I have a sever opinion issue...like I'm quick to make an opinion and relatively harsh with it (although sometimes I'm...gasp...wrong about it)
5. I don't have a fifth thing but I hate ending on number 4...it's just annoying.
Okay best of luck to everyone on the give-a-way...I'm picking tomorrow! XO

overheard
Lesson to me...never sit in a coffee shop surrounded by ivy league students on a Sunday afternoon. Here are just a few things that I overheard
1. "I don't even know why they offer pre-med at public or state schools...they just don't have the same level of requirements that we do here."
2. "People from Johns Hopkins have no personality and I've heard that hospitals aren't hiring people from there because of that"
3. "Would I be better off going to a state school and getting straight-A's than I am here at Dartmouth getting A's and B's..."
4. "I feel like we can't even compare to public schools because we are just getting such a higher level of education than those people."
I feel like all I can really say is, "GO GATORS"
did that really happen? All the friends/family that I have that goes/has gone to Dartmouth is cool...wtf? do people really feel like this or did I sit near the wrong chicks?

House update!
I am so excited...the house is finally starting to reflect how much work we (and by we, I mean mostly hubby) have been putting into it! This week/weekend all the trim and painting was completed! The biggest excitement...my office!
I had a vision for the room but not an exact color picked out. We were in a semi time crunch so I literally went into the paint store and made my pick that was the closest to what I had in mind (enter nerves...)
Here's the finished product!

I am LOVING it! Hubby and his friend were slightly alarmed at the brightness but they calmed down when all was said and done :)
Now a little preview of what I'm thinking for this room (my office)...pops of pink and black, mercury glass accents and a chevron black/white print rug...can't wait to show you the finished product!

DC Girls Trip!
DC Girls Trip! by lteevens featuring sterling silver bangles
So excited for my DC Girls Trip! It's been way too long since we got together!
I promised them that I'd post a polyvore set of what I packed...but seeing as they are already packed and on their way...this is too late!
I figured I'd post it anyway because it reflects a new trend in my style...more simple, classic and laid back. Ever since I did a major closet clean out I've gone back to basics...mainly jeans, t-shirts (and button downs) with fun statement jewelry (think fun chandelier earrings and stacked bracelets) to go along with my newly discovered "beachy waves".
I'm hoping that we take some great pictures this weekend so you can have a better idea of what I'm talking about...as well as see how much we missed each other!
Below is a pic of the ladies I'll be seeing this weekend (all the ladies in blue and the blonde next to me hopefully)...the other lovies I'll be seeing later this summer and I can't wait!!!! XO

So long, farewell...
RIP Spice girls...you were okay chickens I guess.
You never physically hurt me, although you tried to peck my ring off my hand...
I won't miss you at all but hubby will. Probably because I didn't want you all in the first place...and I don't like eggs.
Although I will say that I was really upset when I went to make chocolate chip cookies and realized we had no eggs...and you were all dead and the store was closed...then I was sad.

The State of College Football
Preface: if you aren't a football fan this post probably isn't for you...just wanted to be fair and give you a heads up.
The State of College Football (this post reflects my opinion only, if you disagree leave a comment and we can chat about it!)
So as some of you may know (I've written a post or two about it before) that I'm a coach's kid and have been for my entire life. I've gone through the ups and the downs and everything in between. It's definitely a roller coaster life but I've always believed in my dad and in the industry ever since I was old enough to realize what was going on.
I'm beginning to question everything now.
Up until now I've believed that football coaches are in the business for one of two reasons (and in many cases, both): 1. They love the game. 2. They love the opportunity to help young men develop their athletic talents, help them succeed academically and emotionally and to set them on the path for success in whatever they hope to do. Coaches are in the unique position where they have authority over their players but can also be a "father figure" in terms of providing support and advice.
I know that my dad takes his job as a father figure and mentor seriously. He just drove 12 hours each way to attend the funeral of a player's mother. He didn't have to, but he knew how much it would mean to the player so he went without a second thought. He still has mandatory study hall for freshman players and even goes to check in on them...he insists that all players sit in the front row of their classes to encourage success in the classroom (an added bonus is that professors realize that these guys are more than just football "meatheads"). For him it's about setting these guys up for success as well as working them hard on the field. He's no softie on the field or in the weight room, but he makes it know that he's doing it to make sure that they get the most out of everything. Nothing is half-assed.
Now there are definitely still coaches who still take their jobs as mentors and coaches seriously, but unfortunately there seem to be a lot of coaches (many of whom are at high profile universities) who are in it for two other reasons:
1. Competition (which I think of as a version of love of the game, but one that is harsher and more businesslike).
2. Fame and fortune.
Many coaches at the high profile universities are making at least seven figures per year. These salaries are given out more freely than before but do come at a price. Coaches are paid big bucks but are expected to win immediately. There is no leeway given to really dig in and build a program the right way. Results from this approach are slowly coming to light. More players are getting in trouble for arrests, academic issues and ineligibility. That can only mean that coaches are not taking the time to make sure their players are on the right path. Young men between the ages of 18-22 need someone to guide them and set a good example.
Two examples of coaches becoming too tied up in the fame and fortune are Bobby Petrino of the University of Arkansas, and Jim Tressel (former coach of Ohio State). Coach Petrino was recently involved in a motorcycle accident in which he broke several ribs and cracked a vertebrae in his neck. When asked by the police and the athletic director if anyone else was involved in the incident he said no without hesitation. Come to find out he had a 25 year old young woman (and new employee) on the back of his bike. He didn't tell his AD, his wife or any of his four children because he didn't want an "inappropriate relationship to become public". What a great example for his players right? He may be a great coach doing great things in the win/loss column but in the long run is that going to help your players turn into good people?
Coach Tressel, a well-respected former football coach at Ohio State was recently dismissed from the school because it was discovered that he was aware that players were violating NCAA rules but did nothing to stop it...another great example of someone in an influential position making multiple poor decisions in order to focus on the win/loss ratio.
Now don't get me wrong, I believe that wins and losses are important, very important. I just believe that there's a right and a wrong way to go about it. Why not use the attention that college football receives to set a good example for young men and boys.
This is just something that I've been thinking about for a while and wanted to get off of my chest. It makes me sad and disappointed because I've loved college football for so long and I'd hate to lose faith and respect for the game that means so much to me and my family.

Patterned Jeans
Patterned Jeans by lteevens featuring stella & dot jewelry
Currently loving these ikat Joe's jeans...may have to purchase these for summer. Also loving the chambray shirt. I have one that I got last year and love how it can be dressed up with jewelry and accessories or dressed down with a baseball hat and lulu cropped pants (wore this last weekend and will post a pic). Still obsessed with Stella & Dot jewelry...so many fun pieces and LOVING the layered look (a look I've been sporting a ton lately). Happy Friday all! XO

have you ever...
Have you ever had a joke go too far?
I have. Actually it happened today...
I was at Staples and I was talking to the check-out lady (who thought I was hilarious) and found out that she was just "in-training" to be a cashier.
I asked her if when she became a "real" cashier she could get one of the sweet red Staples v-neck sweaters.
She said that she didn't really "do sweaters"...but her supervisor came up behind her and started telling me about how she has a red, black and grey one. She also said that if I really liked them that I could probably go online and order one...and that she could tell me where I could get it embroidered.
At that point I didn't dare laugh or let on that I was joking...it would have been too mean...because the lady was really excited (I felt even worse because she had one crossed-eye so I couldn't figure out which eye to look in).
That joke went too far and I feel like karma may come back to get me for being mean...crossing my fingers that doesn't happen :)
If anyone has had a similar experience please tell me all about it...I need a laugh :) See you tomorrow for Friday Fancies!

Some days
Some days you just need to take a deep breath and cheer yourself up (or let others help cheer you up)...other times a photo can be just the ticket...
Blonde hair, sun, water and a tan will cheer me up every time...Here's to hoping tomorrow goes better

Basketball Championship
Basketball Championship by lteevens featuring a shu uemura mascara
So I was all set to tell you all about my total Suzie Homemaker weekend (I mean who am I) when I remembered the that Men's Basketball National Championship is on...therefore an outfit was required...plus that's just way more fun than hearing about my boring all-out cleaning/baking/cooking/organizing event this weekend. I just wish I could wear something that cool tonight...but alas I'm sitting on the couch in my lulu gear from work and drinking wino with hubby.
Happy Monday...hope you're all cheering on Kentucky and the SEC!!! Oh, and cheers (cue glasses clinking)...XO
